Former University of Evansville pitcher Corey Davisson picked up at the professional level right where he left off in college on Thursday night, as he tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief work in his Minor League debut for the Yakima Bears of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

Following one of the most productive offensive seasons in University of Evansville baseball history this spring, junior outfielder Greg Wallace has been named to the America Baseball Coaches Association’s All-Midwest Region second team in a vote of the region’s head coaches.  The ABCA’s Midwest Region includes 34 schools from such conferences as the Missouri Valley Conference, the Big XII, and the Mountain West Conference.

University of Evansville right-handed pitcher Corey Davisson has signed a free agent contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.  He becomes the 50th Purple Ace since 1984 to play professional baseball, including the 44th UE player to play affiliated professional baseball.

University of Evansville freshman shortstop Eric Stamets garnered two more Freshman All-America honors on Monday, as he was named a 2010 Pro-Line Athletic First Team Freshman All-America selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and a second team Freshman All-American by Ping!Baseball.  Stamets received Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America honors last week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

University of Evansville baseball coach Wes Carroll added a pair of pitchers to his 2011 roster on Friday, as Carroll announced the signings of 6’8 right-handed pitcher James Kohler (Ames, Iowa/Ames) and 6’1 left-hander Cole Isom (Hopkinsville, Ky./Christian County) to National Letters of Intent.

Three members of the University of Evansville baseball team were honored on Thursday for their work both on and off of the diamond, as senior outfielder Alex Acheson, senior pitcher Keegan Dennis and sophomore infielder Trentt Copeland were all named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete first team in a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
