Fresh off of a thrilling 60-58 come-from-behind victory over Southeast Missouri State on Thursday, the University of Evansville women’s basketball team will travel to Lawrence, Kansas Monday to battle the University of Kansas Jayhawks in the second round of the 2008 Postseason WNIT.  Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and Monday’s game can be heard live on 91.5 F.M.-WUEV.

Evansville was able to rally from a 17-point halftime deficit and a 19-point second half deficit on Thursday night to post the biggest comeback victory in head coach Tricia Cullop’s eight years as head coach and pick up the school’s first-ever post-season victory in women’s basketball, 60-58, over Southeast Missouri State.  The Purple Aces improved to 21-11 overall with the victory, and now, UE will try to help Cullop earn a piece of school history on Monday night.

Cullop will enter Monday’s game just one victory shy of tying former UE mentor Bill Barnett for first place on UE’s career coaching victories chart.  Cullop, the 2008 Rawlings MVC Coach of the Year, has helped UE go 123-109 over the last eight years as head coach.

Evansville will be battling a Kansas squad which will bring a 16-15 overall record into Monday’s game.  The Jayhawks finished just 4-12 in the Big XII this year, but collected six wins against post-season teams in non-conference play, including picking up a pair of victories against MVC rivals Drake (69-64) and Creighton (91-56).  Kansas has played extremely well inside of historic Allen Fieldhouse this year, posting a 12-4 record, including a perfect 8-0 mark against non-conference foes.  In Big XII play, Kansas also knocked off post-season teams Iowa State, Colorado, and Nebraska at home, while not losing a home game by more than 11 points all year.

Senior all-MVC guard Rebekah Parker continues to pace the Purple Aces offense this year with 14.4 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per contest.  Parker had a game-high 15 points in UE’s come-from-behind victory over Southeast Missouri State on Thursday night.  The Jayhawks are led by honorable mention all-Big XII swing guard Danielle McCray, who will bring similar averages of 14.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game into Monday’s contest.

Monday’s game will mark the first-ever meeting between UE and Kansas in the sport of women’s basketball.
