UE Swim & Dive Heads To Washington University Invite For Weekend Meet

11/20/2009 3:23:56 PM

The University of Evansville swimming & diving team will hit the road for one last time in 2009, as the Aces head to St. Louis to compete in the Washington University Invite on Saturday and Sunday.

“I am just hoping to swim fast,” said Evansville head coach Rickey Perkins. “We really want to win both of them—men’s and women’s. I think we have a chance to do that. We will definitely be swimming in a great pool. We have rested a little bit before the meet, so we will see what happens. Just hoping to compete well.”

It has been 20 days since the team’s last competition when they faced IUPUI, Butler and Xavier at the IUPUI Invite in Indianapolis. The women’s team swept the competition while the men’s team defeated IUPUI and fell to Xavier.

IUPUI Invite was a successful meet for the divers, as freshman Sadie Wells and junior Andy Balczo scored high enough to qualify for Zones. Wells also broke the school record for the 3-meter boards with a score of 280.60, blowing the previous mark of 255.85 out of the water.

In the swimming lanes, the Aces took home 14 first-place finishes. Christina Schmidgall, Hannah Quast, Michea Reinitz and Alex Seward all took top times in two of their individual events.
