University of Evansville men's soccer coach Mike Jacobs has been elected to a three-year term as the Men's College Representative on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Board of Directors. Jacobs will work with coaches at the Division I, II, III and junior college levels regarding membership, the College Cup, and increasing the popularity of soccer nationally.
Jacobs' specific goals include increasing the visibility of the College Cup, marketing and promoting college soccer on a national level, increasing membership, increasing participation in the NSCAA Coaching Education program, enhancing the partnership between college soccer and Major League Soccer, and creating more professional development opportunities.
“It is exciting to have a more active role in growing the game of soccer in the United States, and in an organization like the NSCAA," said Jacobs, who will enter his fifth year as head coach at UE in 2010. "Working for coaches like Fred Schmalz (University of Evansville) and John Rennie (Duke University), who were builders of the game of soccer at all levels, really fostered an interest and enthusiasm in me to give back to the game that has given me so much. I want other young coaches across the country to experience the same opportunities that I have had over the years, and to see soccer continue to blossom into the major entity that we know it is here in the United States.”
