OXFORD, Ohio -- The offense came alive this week for the University of Evansville women's soccer team, but two goals on Sunday were not quite enough in a 3-2 loss to Miami University.

The Aces (2-6-1) scored only three goals in their first seven matches before tallying a pair of goals Friday in their 2-0 win over Xavier.  They struck first again on Sunday, when freshman Breanna Beine found a loose ball in front of the net and sent it over Miami keeper Rachelle Boff to make it 1-0 in the 21st minute.

Four minutes later, however, Miami (7-2-0) got on the scoreboard when Courtney Clark scored following Sara Dessfelt's corner kick, and three minutes after that, at 28:04, Giselle Mangal put Miami up 2-1 with a 20-yard blast that Evansville keeper Chaviel Harrison could not reach.

Evansville wasn't done, though.  Senior defender Shayna Jones took a rare shot on a counterattack, and converted her first career goal with her 30-yard bullet at 72:44 to tie the score at 2-2.  But Miami came up with the game-winner at 80:04 when Mangal scored her second on the day, this time set up by a pass through UE's defense by Jess Kodiak.  Miami finished with 29 shots, including 14 on goal.  Harrison finished with 11 saves, four shy of the school record.  Evansville took a total of seven shots, with four on goal.  Beine and Kasey Cartwright led the way with two shots each.

Evansville is off until next Sunday, when the Aces travel to Des Moines, Iowa to play Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference opener.
