Aces in the Pros

The 2012 campaign was a great one for Aces In the Pros, with two former Purple Aces advancing into the playoffs in their respective leagues, and another recognized among Major League Soccer’s elite.

Marc Burch has played a key role for the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer all season, and the Sounders have advanced to the Major League Soccer Western Conference Finals versus the Los Angeles Galaxy.  Burch appeared in 29 matches and was among the team’s leaders in minutes played as he patrolled the Sounders’ back line from his left back position, and totaled three assists on the offensive side of the ball.

Troy Perkins started the season as the team captain of the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer, and was traded across the border to the Montreal Impact during Montreal’s late-season playoff push.  Perkins started 22 matches for the Timbers, as well as the final nine games of the season for the Impact, and was a key presence in the Montreal defense – finishing with a 0.89 Goals Against Average and four shutouts.  Castrol does their league-wide index to rate all of the players in MLS, and Troy was recognized in the top 20 players in the league (rated 16) and as the league’s second highest goalkeeper (http://www.mlssoccer.com/castrol/index).  Troy was twice recognized with the ‘MLS Save of the Week’ (Week 12 and Week 23 - http://www.mlssoccer.com/sotw/2012), and his save versus New England in Week 23 is up for ‘Save of the Year’ in MLS fan voting.

Cory Elenio capped off a season with the Carolina Railhawks of the North American Soccer League with an appearance in the NASL semifinals, where the Railhawks were eventually defeated by the Tampa Bay Rowdies.  It was a great season for the Railhawks, who defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy in the US Open Cup.  Elenio was a regular contributor for the Railhawks on their backline, playing primarily at right back throughout the season.
