EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In addition to being named the Missouri Valley Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, freshman forward Abby Springer garnered national attention by being named a weekly Primetime Performer by CollegeSoccer306.com .
Springer recorded the first hat trick by an Evansville player since 2008 in UE’s 4-1 upset win over Valley preseason favorite Illinois State Sunday afternoon. The Indianapolis, Ind., native headed in a corner kick from Stephanie Thompson in the 24th minute for the game’s first goal, pushed the Purple Aces’ advantage to 3-0 by finishing a deflection from close range in the 69th minute and capped the hat trick with a goal in the 83rd minute for the contest’s final tally.
Denver forward Kristen Hamilton was named the Primetime Player of the Week, after recording her first career hat trick in the Pioneers’ win at nationally-ranked Portland.
Evansville will be back on the pitch and continue Valley play Sunday at Missouri State. The Aces and Bears are slated for a 1 p.m. kick off from Plaster Field.
