MURRAY, Ky. – The Purple Aces women’s tennis team picked up a 5-2 midweek win over Murray State on Wednesday afternoon.
“This was a great team win,” head coach
Nick Mueller said. “Murray State competed extremely hard and never gave anything up, I want congratulate our 4, 5 and 6 singles for coming through when the match was still in doubt. We are looking forward to a great weekend!”
Murray State took the doubles point behind a pair of wins at the second and third flights.
Natasha James and
Marketa Trousilova took an 8-2 win over Ashley Canty and Carolyn Huerth in the top flight. At No. 2, Carla Suga and Megan Blue picked up an 8-4 win over
Marina Moreno and
Kelsey Costales while the third slot saw Erin Patton and Suzaan Stoltz finish with an 8-5 victory over
Gaby Fifer and
Emily Richardson.
Evansville rebounded in a big way, taking five out of six singles matches. James topped Canty by identical 6-4 finals in the first flight while Trousilova took down Blue, 6-2, 6-1.
At the fourth flight, Moreno overcame an early deficit to beat Patton, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. Gaby Fifer downed Huerth in the fifth spot, 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 while Richardson defeated Stoltz, 6-1, 6-2.
Mina Milovic was topped by Suga in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4.
This weekend Evansville will be back home at Tri-State Athletic Club to face SIU Edwardsville on Friday and UT-Martin on Saturday. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. starts.
