University of Evansville senior volleyball players
Katie Kincaid,
Sally Kulupka, and
Kerry Sylvester were named to the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention Team by a vote of the league’s volleyball sports information directors, the league office announced today.
Kincaid holds a 3.60 grade-point-average in movement science. The Minooka, Ill. native has been a four-year starter and a member of the Dean’s list for six semesters. She is also a member of the National Society for Collegiate Scholars and currently ranks eighth at UE with 1,910 career assists. Kincaid plans on getting her doctorate in physical therapy at UE.
Kulupka is a nursing major and holds a 3.58 grade-point-average. Hailing from Delphi, Ind., Kulupka was most recently named the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Nov. 5 for her efforts in beating UNI for the first time ever. She has 12 matches with double-digit kills this season and is currently second on the team in kills with a career-high 271.
Sylvester, from Carmel, Ind. has a 3.57 grade-point average in movement science. Sylvester currently ranks fifth in UE career record books in block assists (297), seventh in total blocks (339) and ninth with a .236 attack percentage. Earlier this season she was named to they all-tournament teams at the Loyola Invitational and the IUPUI Hampton Inn Invitational. Sylvester plans on attending optometry school after graduation.
Forty-seven student-athletes were nominated for the Valley’s scholar-athlete team. The criterion for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
