Seifert Steps Down As UE Baseball Head Coach
David Seifert has stepped down as head coach of the University of Evansville baseball program, UE Director of Athletics John Stanley announced today.

Seifert leaves Evansville after two seasons as head coach and three seasons overall with the program, after coming to UE as pitching coach during the 2006 season.  In his first season at UE, Seifert helped Evansville rank 12th nationally in terms of earned run average (3.39) as pitching coach, while the Purple Aces won both the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles en route to advancing to the regional championship game of the Charlottesville Regional in the NCAA Tournament with a 43-22 record.

Seifert was elevated to head coach at UE on July 24, 2006 after his predecessor, Dave Schrage, was named the head coach at Notre Dame.  Seifert compiled a 49-65 overall record in two seasons as head coach at UE (35-23 in 2007, 14-42 in 2008).  In his three seasons as both an assistant and head coach at Evansville, Seifert helped UE land two nationally-recognized recruiting classes as recruiting coordinator, while also helping the UE pitching staff rank in the nation’s Top 25 in terms of staff earned run average in both 2006 (12th-3.39) and 2007 (24th-3.72) as pitching coach.

“After a couple of weeks to reflect on this past season, David has chosen to resign as our head coach,” said Stanley.  “I want to thank him for his time and commitment to the University and our baseball program these past three years.  We wish him the best in the future, as he is someone who is a tireless worker and who was able to achieve a lot as both a recruiting coordinator and pitching coach during his time at UE.

“We will immediately begin a search to find the best fit possible for our program.  With our longstanding tradition of success, our facilities, and the outstanding support of our alumni and community, I believe this position will attract a number of outstanding candidates.”
