University of Evansville soccer player
Tom Irvin was chosen today for the second time this season as recipient of the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week award.
Irvin, who has a 3.21 cumulative grade-point average in psychology, scored the only goal of the match on a header in the second half, as Evansville defeated #24 Drake 1-0 last Friday in the Fox Soccer Channel National Game of the Week. The triumph assured UE of its fourth consecutive winning season -- a feat most recently accomplished from 1989 to 1992.
To qualify for the MVC scholar-athlete honor, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, have completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
