MVC Coach of the Year Rickey Perkins

Perkins And UE Student-Athletes Receive Postseason Honors

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Evansville women’s swimming and diving found success at the 2009 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships last week. Several members of the team and head coach Rickey Perkins were honored for their efforts.

Perkins was honored as the MVC Swim Coach of the Year alongside Northern Iowa’s head coach Stacy Simmer. Perkins has been instrumental in the Aces’ continued success in recruiting talented student-athletes.

Christina Schmidgall and Hannah Quast were named to the first team of All-MVC team with top-three finishes in the 1650 free and 100 free, respectively. Schmidgall broke three school records set by former UE standout Kim Dodson (’00-02) in the three days of competition. The sophomore broke records in the 500 free and 1650 free and broke her own record that she set earlier this season in the 1000 free with her split times from the 1650 free at the championships.

Freshmen Alexandra Howard and Kassandra Beseau were also named to the honorable mention all-conference team. Howard was chosen for her top-eight finish in the 100 back and Beseau for the 100 fly and the 200 IM.

Six Aces were honored as MVC Scholar-Athletes including Anna Luecke with a 3.65 GPA in interdisciplinary studies, Schmidgall with a 4.00 GPA in athletic training, Ady Sekely with a 3.94 GPA in psychology, Annie Shackelford with a 3.78 GPA in anthropology, Kaitlyn Sluka with a 3.52 GPA in exercise science and Diane Threlkeld with a 3.56 GPA in exercise science.
