The University of Evansville women's golf team has added two members for the 2010-11 school year with the signing of Grace Abitz from Appleton, Wis. (Fox Valley Lutheran) and Sydney Skiles of Evansville (Memorial). Abitz and Skiles bring the number of players to eight, joining returning golfers Morgan Anderson, Lauren Ellerman, Emily Johnson, Alyssa Key, Maggie Wood and Chelsea Zusan.
Abitz was the 2009 Eastern Valley Conference Player of the Year, Appleton Post Crescent Golfer of the Year, and Honorable Mention All-State. She was also a four-time state tournament qualifier. Skiles was a standout at Reitz Memorial High School for former UE golfer Jenny Effinger. Skiles was a three-time all-city and all-Southern Indiana Athletic Conference selection, and a four-time state tournament qualifier.
"Both Grace and Sydney are driven to be successful, and their work ethic means they have the opportunity to be very good Division I golfers," said UE coach Jim Hamilton. "They also bring depth to our team, and that means more competition during practice in order to secure a place in our top five next season."
Collegiate golf is played during both the fall and spring, with the season culminating at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship in April.
