Wandersee, Luttrull Named MVC Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

The University of Evansville Athletics Department continues to rack up Missouri Valley Conference accolades this week as the league has announced seniors Emily Wandersee and Mike Luttrull as Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athletes of the Week.

A middle blocker for the Aces’ volleyball team, Wandersee led UE to its second-straight tournament championship. The Aces posted three sweeps over Western Carolina, Loyola-Chicago and Murray state to win the UE Dunn Hospitality Tournament this past weekend.

Also named the MVC Player of the Week, Wandersee recorded a .529 attack percentage and 45 kills on the weekend. In the victory against Western Carolina, she tied the UE school record for single match hitting percentage (.727) with 16 kills. Wandersee is currently ranked 45th in the nation for kills per set. The St. Louis, Mo. Native has a 3.44 cumulative grade-point average in elementary education.

A forward for the Evansville men’s soccer team, Luttrull helped the Purple Aces capture their third-straight ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic title, as UE defeated Alabama A&M (9-0) and East Tennessee State (2-0).

His four goals this past weekend earned him tournament Offensive Most Valuable Player honors. Versus Alabama A&M, he scored three times and added an assist. He also notched the first goal in the triumph over East Tennessee. Luttrull is currently the nation's third leading scorer, with 5 goals and 11 total points in the Aces' first four matches.A native of Avon, Ind., Luttrull has a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average in accounting.

To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.  Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible.  In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
