University of Evansville golfer Griffin Wood (Boonville, Ind./Boonville) has been selected as the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.

Wood, a junior, finished fourth in a field of 78 golfers Sunday at the Hoosier Invitational on the Indiana University Golf Course. He shot rounds of 71, followed by a career-best 68, and 73 to finish with a 54-hole score of 1-under-par 212.  Led by Woods' effort, the Purple Aces placed third among the 15 teams in the event for their highest finish of the spring season.  Wood has a 3.35 grade point average, and majors in management.

Wood and his teammates play this weekend at the Yestingsmeier Intercollegiate at Muncie, Ind.  It's the final tuneup prior to the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship April 25-26 at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.

Now in its 12th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies.  On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.  Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible.
