Tennis player Kate Chybowski (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) and soccer player Mike Luttrull (Indianapolis, Ind./Avon) were honored tonight as the University of Evansville's most outstanding senior scholar-athletes.  Chybowski was presented with the Lois D. Patton Award, given annually to UE's top female scholar-athlete, while Luttrull was presented with the Ralph H. Coleman Award, signifying the most outstanding male scholar-athlete.  Both presentations were made at the 18th annual University of Evansville Leadership Awards Reception, at the Ridgway University Center.

Chybowski has a 3.90 grade point average, and will graduate May 7 with a degree in Biology.  She has been accepted into the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. Chybowski is Evansville's all-time leader with 105 singles victories and 184 total victories, breaking records that were set in 1999 by Karen Black.  Chybowski is third in school history with 79 doubles victories. She is 15-2 this spring at number one singles, including 4-1 against Missouri Valley Conference opponents, and is bidding to become a first-team all-MVC selection for the third time.  Chybowski is also a finalist for the Ida M. Stieler Award, presented each June to UE's female athlete of the year.  She won the award in 2010.  Off the court, Chybowski has been just as successful. She began an after-school program in 2009 at Dexter Elementary School in Evansville, teaching fourth graders and later kindergarteners to speak Spanish. Last year, she began serving as a hospice volunteer at Vista Care of Indiana.  She is also an accomplished cellist, and on Saturday night following her tennis match will join other UE musicians in performing "The Crucifixion" at St. John's United Church of Christ in Boonville.

Luttrull has a 3.78 grade point average, and will graduate next month with a degree in Accounting.  He was a first team selection on the 2010 ESPN Division I Men's Soccer Academic All-America Team after earning second team Academic All-America honors as a junior in 2009. He finished his career as the 15th leading scorer in UE history with 26 goals and 10 assists for 62 points. His 26 goals are the ninth most in Aces' history. Luttrull was Evansville's leading scorer as a senior with six goals and three assists for 15 points, and earned the ProRehab Aces Soccer Classic Offensive Most Valuable Player award for the third consecutive year. A four-time all-Missouri Valley Conference selection, he ranked number four in the MVC in points and number five in goals in 2010. Luttrull was also involved in the soccer team's community outreach programs, including the Ronald McDonald House, Kick for the Cure, Race for the Cure, and Soles4Souls.

Voting for both awards was done by University of Evansville coaches and athletics department administrators.  Other finalists for the Patton Award included basketball player Stephanie Bamberger, swimmer Christina Schmidgall, volleyball player Emily Wandersee and golfer Maggie Wood.  Finalists for the Coleman Award included diver Andy Balczo and baseball player Greg Wallace.
