EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Junior Trentt Copeland of the University of Evansville baseball team has been named the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, announced by Commissioner Doug Elgin Wednesday. Copeland was honored for his performance during the period of April 18-24.

An infielder from Guelph Ontario, Copeland, posted a .467 batting average on the week, leading the Purple Aces to a 3-1 record, including a series victory over Bradley.

Copeland, who has a 3.69 cumulative grade-point average in marketing, recorded at least one hit in every contest and had multi-hit games in all three versus the Braves. In each win over Bradley, the junior collected two hits and an RBI. He also had a double and run scored in the series opener. Playing second base, Copeland recorded a perfect fielding percentage with 24 chances, including 17 assists.

Now in its 12th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies. On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
