LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced 481 teams that have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2010-2011 season.  With a combined 3.52 grade point average for the year, the University of Evansville volleyball team is a part of that list.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Under the direction of head coach Mike Swan, who will enter his ninth season at the helm this fall, the Purple Aces have earned the AVCA honor seven of the last eight years.

“I am really proud of what this team accomplished in the classroom,” said Swan. “They took their academics very seriously and it showed with our team having a 3.52 GPA, our highest in four years. It is recognition from our volleyball association that we expect to receive each summer.” 

The Aces return 10 letterwinners from the 2010 team that compiled a 17-13 record. UE opens the 2011 season on Aug. 26 when Evansville takes on North Carolina A&T in the Spartan Spiketacular in Greensboro, N.C. The Aces kick off their home schedule on Sept. 9, hosting Southeast Missouri State, University of Illinois-Chicago, and Arizona in the Dunn Hospitality Invitational.
