Stephanie Thompson broke the 0-0 tie with her first goal of the season, as the University of Evansville women’s soccer team topped Valparaiso University, 1-0, on the road Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Aces improve to 1-2-1 on the season.
The real story of the match was Evansville’s stellar defense, piloted by junior goalkeeper
Chaviel Harrison who recorded 10 saves and the shutout. The Aces’ defense went up against 19 shots, including 11 on goal.
However, Evansvile made the most of their opportunities as the Purple Aces took 10 shots, four on goal, including Thompson’s game-winner on a tight angled shot, 20-yards out on the left side. Sophomore
Kaitlin Robinett recorded the assist.
Thompson led UE with four shots on the day, while sophomore Breana Beine and Tasha Prentice each added two.
Both teams had about equal corner kick opportunities with the Crusaders taking five and Evansville four.
The Aces are back in action Wednesday when they travel to take on Xavier at 6:00 p.m. CT.
