EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Evansville swimmer
Colin Gray is back on the Academic All-America Team, this time as a first team selection.
The senior from Carmel, Ind., chosen third team Academic All-America in 2011, was selected today as one of 15 first team athletes on the 2012 Capital one Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team. The elite team is chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Arguably the hardest All-America category, the Division I Men’s At-Large Team includes athletes from the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling. Broken down into a first, second and third team, a total of 44 athletes received Men’s At-Large All-America recognition this year.
Gray is the only athlete to represent the Mid-American Conference on the list of 44, and is also Evansville’s first athlete to receive First Team Academic All-America status since soccer player Mike Luttrull was selected for the 2010 Men’s Soccer First Team.
Gray graduated in May with a 4.0 G.P.A. in mathematics (actuarial science). He owned the Aces’ season best time in the 200- breaststroke all four seasons of his career and the top time in 100-breaststroke in three seasons. The recipient of the 2012 Ralph H. Coleman Award, Gray finished 18th in the 100-breaststroke at the Mid-American Conference Championships. He was also a three-time Academic All-MAC first team pick as well as a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large First Team selection.
