EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Heritage Federal Credit Union has awarded scholarships to two student-athletes at this morning’s Heritage Federal Credit Union Student-Athlete Academic Honors Breakfast on the University of Evansville campus.
Cross country runner
Kelby Jenkins and men’s soccer player
Nick Schroeder were awarded with the scholarships, which are for $1,012 each. The award will be entitled the "Heritage Federal Academic Community Award".
“At the credit union, we look for top performers and had a lot of great candidates to choose from for this award,” Heritage Federal CEO Ruth Jenkins said. “We are pleased to offer this award to UE and it is based on academic achievement, community service and campus leadership. We congratulate both student-athletes on this achievement.”
Jenkins has gotten off to a blazing start for UE in 2012. The junior won her first two events this season, including victories at the UE Mid-America Opener before reeling off another win in the EIU Panther Open. Jenkins has worked towards a perfect 4.0 GPA in accounting.
Schroeder played in 14 matches as a freshman last year while making four starts. He tallied two points on a goal, which was scored against Big Ten foe Indiana University. He was a key part of the Aces defense that recorded three shutouts on the season. Thus far in 2012, he has played in all seven games and has notched a goal on four shots. He has accumulated a 3.97 GPA in Exercise Science.
This marks the first time the award has been given out. The student-athletes will be honored on a plaque at the Carson Center.
