ST. LOUIS – A pair of University of Evansville women's soccer players, senior
Stephanie Thompson and sophomore
Allie Arguello, were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team in an announcement made by the league office Tuesday morning.
Â
Arguello played a key role on Evansville's back line that finished the season with a 0.90 goals against average, after allowing just 18 goals in 19 matches. The Las Vegas native started all 19 contests for the Purple Aces, recording one point on an assist and helped UE's defense post seven shutouts. In the classroom, the sophomore midfielder is a biology (pre-med) major and boasts a perfect 4.0 grade-point average (GPA).
Â
Thompson was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team for the third time in her career, after scoring three goals and recording an assist for seven points during her senior campaign. The Evansville native led the Aces with 60 shots, putting 33 on goal for a .550 shot on goal percentage. Thompson was name an All-MVC First Team selection earlier this season and finished her career with 36 points on 14 goals and eight assists. Off the pitch, Thompson owns a flawless 4.0 GPA as an exercise science major and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Five First Team.
Â
A total of 36 student-athletes were nominated for the Valley's scholar-athlete team. The criteria for the honor parallels the CoSIDA standards for Academic All-America voting, where nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches or the MVC Championship.
