ST. LOUIS – University of Evansville junior men's soccer player
Kevin Schafer was named one of 10 recipients for the Missouri Valley Conference Leadership & Service Award in an announcement by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

Schafer has appeared in 17 games for the Purple Aces this season and has recorded three points on a trio of assists. Off the pitch, the Albuquerque, N.M., native boasts a 3.86 grade-point average as a mechanical engineering major and has been named to UE's Dean's List and Student-Athlete Honor Roll all four semesters. In addition, the junior defender is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and Pi Tau Sigma, a mechanical engineering honor society, and has put in numerous hours as a volunteer for organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, Special Olympics and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

In order to be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley recognizes 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees.
