EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Following a two-week break after their season opener against Southern Illinois, the Purple Aces swimming and diving teams are on the road to compete at Valparaiso on Friday and the Indiana Intercollegiate on Saturday.
Friday's start against the Crusaders is set for 5 PM CST, while Saturday's Indiana Intercollegiate begins at noon EST in West Lafayette.
The women's team started their season out strong, winning both the 3x100 Butterfly Relay and the 3x100 Backstroke Relay. Kristen Myers, Danielle Freeman, and Emma Hennessy out-touched the second place SIU relay by over five seconds with a final time of 2:55.00. Defending MVC 100 Backstroke champion Michaela Kent led her relay of Taylor Davidson and Sam Gowdy to a victory with a time of 2:54.36.
The top men's performance came from the relay efforts of freshman Brandt Hudson, sophomores Jared Sutphin and Blake Wheeler, and junior Everett Plocek. They were victorious in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:13.29.
On the boards, Courtney Coverdale took first in both 1-Meter and 3-Meter and her efforts in the 1-meter earned her a qualification to NCAA Zones in the spring. Her scores were 274.95 and 266.25, respectively. On the men's side, Miguel Marcano notched two third place finishes with 241.725 in the 1-Meter and 218.775 in the 3-Meter.
