MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Newcomers Chieko Yamada and Diana Tkachenko of the University of Evansville women's tennis team earned valuable experience over the last two days at the ITA Ohio Regional.
Â
Yamada opened play on Thursday, dropping her match in qualifying singles. In Friday's consolation match, she fell to Victoria Demcenkova of Eastern Kentucky, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 10-3.
Â
Tkachenko lost 6-3, 6-3 to the No. 5 seed Sidney Liggins from Xavier this morning. The two teamed up in doubles on Friday, losing to Western Kentucky by a final of 8-3.
Â
Both will play consolation singles matches tomorrow and a consolation doubles.
Â
"Today was disappointing for both Diana and Chieko because they both had opportunities to win their singles matches, but just couldn't convert in a few critical situations," Aces head coach Jayson Wiseman said. Â "In doubles all the credit has to go to WKU as they just outplayed us the last 6 games of the doubles match. Hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow and pick up a few wins in the consolation before we head back to campus."
