Swimming and Diving wrap up weekend on the road

West Lafayette, Ind. – The Purple Aces swimming and diving teams finished up their weekend in northern Indiana this afternoon with the Indiana Intercollegiate at Purdue University.
 
The men's team took fifth place with a score of 137 points while the women ranked third at 189.5 points.
 
"It was a fun meet. We got to compete in one of the best pools in the country," said head coach Rickey Perkins. "We saw some things that we can improve on, but overall it was a productive weekend."
 
Many of the day's top performances came from the freshman class. Brandt Hudson led the Aces in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:47.06 for tenth place. Again leading the Aces, he took 12th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.67.
 
Fellow freshman Paul Cozzens led the team in his events as well. His 200 IM efforts earned him a time of 1:57.49 and tenth place. He timed in at 53.03 in the 100 butterfly for seventh place.
 
Freshman Zach Sagan led the cluster of Aces in 100 freestyle. He earned 18th place with a 50.26, while teammates Dan O'Brien and Jared Sutphin placed just behind him with times of 50.73 and 50.82 respectively. Additionally, Sagan took 13th in the 200 freestyle at a 1:49.69.
 
Other noteworthy performances came from junior Everett Plocek and senior Will Glasscock. Plocek took ninth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.52, while Glasscock clocked in a 1:00.98 for 11th. Sophomore Matt Duke took 11th in the 50 Free at a 22.36. The men's relays performed admirably as well. The team of O'Brien, Duke, Glasscock, and senior Matt Childress took 8th in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:38.68. The 200 Freestyle Relay squad consisted of Hudson, Cozzens, Sutphin, and freshman Andrew Sutphin. Their efforts timed a 1:30.05 for fifth place.
 
The women's team were not lacking in their efforts as well. Senior Michaela Kent earned a seventh place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.66. Additionally, she took tenth in the 100 butterfly at 1:00.08. Senior Danielle Freeman touched just behind at 1:00.18 for 12th place.
 
Sophomore Madi Jones had strong performances this afternoon as well. She clocked in a 1:58.72 in the 200 freestyle for 11th place and 54.90 in the 100 freestyle for 8th. Additionally, Sam Gowdy took eighth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.83. Kristy Kupfer led the Aces in the 200 IM in 12th place at a 2:16.19.
 
The women's 200 Medley Relay clocked in at 1:53.20. The efforts of Gowdy, Alaina Sylvester, Kayla Aitken, and Jones earned the Aces eighth place. The 200 Freestyle Relay's Ashton Adams, Aine Scholand, Kupfer, and Megan Schremp only improved with a sixth place finish at 1:45.08.
 
On the diving side of the competition, junior Courtney Coverdale took seventh place in the 1-Meter with 218.70 points, followed by freshman Alyssa Vonder Haar in 13th at 141 points. In the 3-Meter, Coverdale took sixth place at 232.25 points, while Vonder Haar earned tenth at 149.85 points. Sophomore Miguel Marcano took ninth in the 1-Meter, scoring a 205.15. His 3-Meter performance earned him tenth place at 184.50 points.
