The Wildcats (6-2-2) represent the third ranked opponent that the Aces have taken on this season, and UK has really hit its stride in recent weeks, running up a 3-0-1 record over the past four matches, which includes a pair of 1-0 victories over No. 21 New Mexico and No. 14 Charlotte.
UK has ridden a stout defense for much of the season, logging six shutouts while holding opponents to just five goals.
The Aces (6-4-1), on the other hand, will be hoping to get their offense back on track after being held scoreless on Saturday for the first time this season. Thanks in large part to the scoring duo of Ian McGrath and Jared Robinson, which has combined for nine goals on the year, UE scored in each of its first 10 matches this season before falling 1-0 to Missouri State.
Defensively, the Aces have depended on a pair of stalwart central defenders in Trevor Baum and Chris Shuck. Frederik Reimer and Matthew Keller have each seen action in goal, and the team has already doubled its clean sheet total from a season ago with four.
Kickoff on Wednesday is slated for 7 p.m., and there will be free chips and queso for the first 100 students in attendance, courtesy of Qdoba.
NOTES: The Aces are 3-0 this season following a loss … UE is 5-7-0 all-time in matches against Kentucky … The Wildcats are the Aces' oldest active opponent as each side met in the second-ever varsity contest in school history in 1974 … The Wildcats won that game 5-0 … The two teams have met in each of the last six seasons ... Last year, UE fell 4-1 in Lexington, and Wednesday will be the first match since a 5-1 Wildcat win in Evansville in 2014 … The last UE win in the series was a 2-1 decision in Lexington on Oct. 8, 2013 … UE is 7-4-1 all-time on Oct. 5.
