INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Swimming and diving continued House of Champions this evening at IUPUI.
"Another great day of competition," said head coach Rickey Perkins. "We did an excellent job of racing and showing our overall improvement. Tomorrow will be a great test of our fitness with the 200s of strokes, the 1650, and the 100 free."
The Lady Aces started the night with a third place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomore Sam Gowdy, freshman Alaina Sylvester, junior Danielle Freeman, and senior Michaela Kent clocked in with a 1:45.12.
Kent took home the top performance of the night for the women. She finished with third place in the 100 backstroke with a final time of 56.17. Gowdy led the consolation final for a 57.23 and 10
th place.
Sylvester performed well individually as well. She took seventh place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.33. Junior Kayla Aitken followed in the consolation final with a 1:06.17 for tenth place. In the same heat, sophomore Sylvia McFadden snagged 16
th with 1:09.69.
Sophomore Kristen Myers clocked in at 4:31.95 in the 400 IM for 9
th place. Teammate Shaina Weisberg followed in 19
th with a time of 4:40.94. Sophomore Madi Jones continued in the 200 freestyle for a 14
th place finish in 1:55.41 while junior Jessi Hildebrand earned 24
th with her time of 1:58.09.
The women's squad took 10
th in the last relay of the night. Myers, Jones, Hildebrand, and freshman Kristy Kupfer's efforts clocked them in for 7:51.53.
On the men's side, sophomore Blake Wheeler, senior Everett Plocek, junior Prescott Marcy, and sophomore Matt Duke took 9
th in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:35.
Plocek earned a lifetime best tonight in the 100 breaststroke. His time of 57.44 was good for 13
th place.
Another top performance for the men came from freshman Brandt Hudson in the 200 freestyle. He placed 11
th with a time of 1:42.34. Wheeler came next for the Aces in 18
th place with a 1:43.67.
Freshman Paul Cozzens clocked in at 4:04.33 in the 400 IM for 12
th place. Senior Andrew Cotton followed in 23
rd with 4:20.28. Junior Dan O'Brien led the Aces in the 100 breaststroke. His time of 51.84 was good for 17
th place.
The men ended their night with the 800 Freestyle Relay. Freshman Zach Sagan, Hudson, sophomore Jared Sutphin, and Wheeler touched in at 6:57.13 for seventh place.
On the diving side, junior Courtney Coverdale took second place in 1-Meter with 231.85 points. Fellow junior Kasey Rein took 10
th with 147.15 points, and freshman Alyssa Vonder Haar followed closely behind in 11
th with a score of 109.60. Sophomore Miguel Marcano scored 214.05 points on the 3-Meter, a score good for 9
th place.
The Aces are back at 10 am EST tomorrow for the final preliminary session, with finals beginning at 5 pm EST.
