EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Rocio Fortuny wrapped up her sophomore season on a high note, recording 10 kills as the University of Evansville volleyball team finished its season with a 3-0 defeat to Wichita State on Saturday evening at the Carson Center.

Fortuny led the Purple Aces (5-26, 1-17 MVC) with the 10 kills while Joselyn Coronel finished with 8. Jelena Merseli posted 27 assists while Mildrelis Rodriguez had 10 digs. Tabitha Brown led the Shockers (22-7, 15-3 MVC) with 16 kills with Abbie Lehman notching 13.

Wichita State jumped out to a 4-1 advantage and extended that to 8-4. Rocio Fortuny helped UE make their way right back as her four early kills gave the Aces a 9-8 lead but the Shockers had a response of their own, scoring six in a row before taking a 25-16 win.

In the second frame, it was all Shockers. They went up by a 21-2 score before UE rallied back with three Erlicia Griffith kills to make it a final of 25-7.

Evansville held strong in the third game. After trailing by a 5-0 score, UE got within a pair at 14-12 on a Joselyn Coronel kill, but Wichita State overcame the rally to earn the 3-0 match victory thanks to a 25-18 win in the third set.

Saturday's match completes the 2016 season as the Aces look towards a bright future. With no seniors on this year's squad, UE was able to gain valuable experience and momentum heading into the 2017 campaign.Â
