NORMAL, Ill. – Eight members of the University of Evansville women's soccer team earned Missouri Valley Conference honors on Thursday evening, but Whitney Biggs was the big winner on the night for the Aces as she was named the league's Goalkeeper of the Year.
Biggs, a senior out of Bloomington, Ind., made a name for herself at last season's MVC tournament, earning the MVP award after leading the Aces to a conference championship. She's picked right back up where she left off this year, posting four clean sheets heading into Friday's championship semis.
Joining Biggs on the first team, perhaps unsurprisingly, is the duo of Bronwyn Boswell and Emily Richardson. Both were named to the all-conference preseason squad and are coming off a first team honors a year ago. Boswell led the Aces with six goals this season while Richardson led a UE back three that has featured a pair of freshmen for much of the season.
Colleen Dierkes, who's recorded two goals this season while playing in all 17 matches, carved out a spot on the second team, and both Nicki Baham and Montana Portenier earned an honorable mention.
The six total all-conference honorees are the most for an Aces team since the title-winning season of 2008.
Meanwhile, Mikayla Harvey, who has started nearly every match this season in the midfield, earned a spot on the freshman team, where she was joined by defender Samantha Brown.
The Missouri Valley Conference Championship will begin Friday for UE as the team will take on Loyola at 3:30 p.m. at Adelaide Street Field on the campus of Illinois State University. A win would put the Aces into Sunday's 1 p.m. final.
