Hair named preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball

12/19/2016 11:50:00 AM

After a stellar debut season for the University of Evansville baseball team last spring, Trey Hair's senior season has drawn national interest as the second baseman was named to Collegiate Baseball's Preseason All-America Third Team on Monday.

Hair ranked as one of the best power-hitting second-basemen in the country a season ago, finishing with 20 doubles and 10 home runs. A .340 hitter overall, he finished the season with 32 extra-base hits, which leads all five second basemen who earned preseason honors on Monday. The Firth, Neb., native also finished the year with team best totals in runs batted in (42) and runs scored (41).

"This is an honor that Trey has certainly earned," UE head coach Wes Carroll said. "He had a great year and then followed it up with an outstanding summer. He's going to be a big part of what we do both offensively and defensively, and we'll look to him to lead us again this season."

Hair was one of three MVC players named to the squad. Missouri State third baseman Jake Burger grabbed a spot on the second team, and Dallas Baptist reliever Seth Elledge joined Hair on the third team.

Following last season, Hair was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Second Team, and Monday actually marks the second time in his career that he's taken home national honors. After hitting .495 as a senior for Norris High School, he was named a Louisville Slugger All-American.

The 2017 UE baseball season will begin in February.
