EVANSVILLE — After a 2016 season that culminated in a pair of Missouri Valley Conference tournament victories, the University of Evansville baseball team will be looking to keep the momentum rolling in 2017 as the team unveiled its schedule on Wednesday.
Full 2017 Schedule
"I feel like we have put together another competitive schedule," UE head coach Wes Carroll said. "It's great to attract such quality opponents to Braun Stadium. We will be tested early and often as we get prepared to play in the Missouri Valley. It is going to be an exciting year of Evansville Baseball."
It will certainly be a challenging start to the 2017 campaign as the Purple Aces will begin with seven consecutive road games. The season will get started on Feb. 17 with a trip to Conway, Ark., for a weekend series at Central Arkansas, and it will get much tougher on Feb. 22 as UE will take on national powerhouse Vanderbilt. The swing will end the following weekend with a three-game set at Southern Miss.
UE will open the home slate with a four-game series from March 3-5 against Milwaukee, and midweek contests with Indiana and Campbell will wrap up the homestand before a three-game set at Campbell.
In addition to midweek showdowns with SIUE and UT Martin, the Aces will conclude the bulk of the non-conference part of the schedule with series against Western Michigan and Lipscomb.
The MVC season will start on March 31 at Southern Illinois, and UE's annual showdown with crosstown rival Southern Indiana is slated for April 5.
UE will host its first home MVC series against Indiana State the following weekend. The Aces will spend much of the month of April at Charles H. Braun Stadium, welcoming in Northern Illinois and Missouri State for series to close out the month.
May will begin with eight straight road contests, including three-game sets against Bradley and Wichita State before closing out the regular season in Evansville against Belmont and Dallas Baptist.
The MVC tournament will take place from May 24-27 at Hammons Field in Springfield, Mo.
