Women's Soccer enjoying successful summer

7/21/2016 10:17:00 AM

With defending their 2015 Missouri Valley Conference championship in mind,13 members of the University of Evansville women's soccer team are playing competitive soccer around the continent this summer.

While most have spent the season in the WPSL, Montana Portenier, who missed last year's title-winning campaign due to injury, has made a name for herself with FC London of Ontario's League 1. The Ottawa native has played in nine of the team's 11 contests this season, scoring twice and helping the team to a 9-2 record and a place atop the league table.

Meanwhile, Bronwyn Boswell has played with one of the top squads in WPSL, helping the FC Dallas to a perfect 14-0 record and the top spot in the league's Southwest Division. Emily Richardson also secured a place with an impressive club as she and her Orlando Kicks teammates compiled a 6-0-2 mark to lead the Sunshine Division.

Whitney Biggs and Molly Lear, who both play for FC Pride, ended third in the Valley Division, with Lear recording one assist, and Nicole Baham, who played for FC Pacific, rounds out UE's WPSL representation.

Elsewhere, Kasey Stefan helped the FC Ambassadors U18 side to a regional crown, and Michaela Shepherd also impressed with Cincinnati Soccer Alliance, which advanced to the regional semifinals. Both Mikayla Harvey and Colleen Dierkes participated with the U23s from St. Louis Scott Gallagher, and the duo of Sam Brown and Maggie Leazer played matches with Arsenal ECNL and Elite SC, respectively.
