Aces fall in double overtime at Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. – A late Molly Lear equalizer sent the game into extra time on Friday evening, but Morehead State would have some late magic of its own, pulling out a 3-2 double-overtime victory over the University of Evansville women's soccer team at Jayne Stadium.

After out-shooting the hosts 9-4 in the opening half, Bronwyn Boswell put the Aces (1-4-0) on the board first after a foul inside the 18-yard box in the 64th minute. The senior out of Frisco, Texas, stepped up and converted the ensuing penalty for the third time this season, giving her a team-leading four goals. With 18 scores for her career, she is just one away from moving into a tie for ninth on UE's all-time scoring list.

The UE lead wouldn't last long, however, as Abby Timm was awarded a penalty just 24 seconds later to tie the game back up at 1-1, and Ashley Ritchie followed up with a 67th-minute strike to put the Eagles (2-2-0) ahead for good.

UE would continue to have chances as the game wound down, ultimately out-shooting the Eagles 7-5 in the second 45 minutes, and it would be Lear who finally leveled the affair just four minutes from the final whistle.

However, MSU took control in extra time, firing off seven shots before Quinn brought the game to an end in the second period.

The Aces will look to bounce back later this weekend as they will return to Arad McCutchan Stadium on Sunday. UE will welcome Southeast Missouri in for the match, which will also serve as a fundraiser for Field of Dreams Uganda.
