EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville swimming and diving teams begin their seasons this weekend with a home meet against Southern Illinois.
 
On Friday at 4 p.m., the Purple Aces and Salukis will complete the diving portion of the meet.  The swimmers take their turn in the pool on Saturday at 11 a.m. and will be a relay format with events unique to the meet.
 
Returning for the women's team is senior Michaela Kent, who is the defending Missouri Valley Conference Champion in the 100 Backstroke. Also returning to the squad is junior Courtney Coverdale, who took second place in the 1-Meter and fourth in the 3-Meter in last year's MVC Championship.  After playing exclusively on the softball team last year, Danielle Freeman makes her return to the pool for the first time since winning the 100 Butterfly at the 2015 MVC Championships. Saturday will debut Aces newcomers including hopefuls Kristie Kupfer, Ashton Adams, and Alaina Sylvester.

Everett Plocek, Matt Duke, and Matt Childress are back in action for the men's squad, following their sixth place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay at the Mid-American Conference Championships in March. They will be accompanied by newcomers including Brandt Hudson, Paul Cozzens, and Blake Wheeler.
