NORMAL, Ill. – Five singles decision went the way of the Purple Aces women's tennis along with two doubles matches as the University of Evansville completed the opening day of the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Tournament on Saturday.
Top singles featured Diana Tkachenko defeating Valparaiso's Claire Czerwonka, 6-3, 6-4. Also picking up a win on Saturday in the fourth flight was Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga. She defeated Malini Wijesinghe of Bradley, 6-4, 6-2.

In the fifth flight, Nicoli Pereira picked up the win over Valentina Caro of UNI, 6-3, 7-5. Theodora Soldatou was also victorious on Saturday as she beat Savanna Hunt of the Panthers, 6-0, 6-2. Flight six saw Marie Kapelevich get past the Crusaders' Erin Staal, 6-0, 6-2.
Chieko Yamada took the loss in the second flight against VU's Jelena Vujanic, 6-4, 6-3. Daria Pentsova fell to Phoebe Boeschen from Missouri State in the third flight, 6-2, 6-3 while Leah Helpingstine dropped her matchup against Stony Brook's Amanda Foo, 6-0, 6-0.
Evansville took two out of three doubles tilts on the day with Soldatou and Yamada taking the win over UNI at #1 doubles, 8-4. In the second flight, it was the duo of Pentsova and Tkachenko earning an 8-6 victory over Missouri State.
