Box Score PEORIA, Ill. - On a frosty Friday night in Peoria, the University of Evansville men's soccer team battled the elements, as well as top seeded Missouri State through scoreless regulation, as well as two overtime periods before finally falling on penalty kicks 6-5 in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament semifinals.
Contrary to the score, the match was far from a defensive struggle, with the two squads combining for 34 shots through 110 minutes, with the Purple Aces holding an 18-16 edge in that department.
Evansville senior goalkeeper Matt Keller (Carmel, Ind.) was once again dominant in net, stopping all shots on goal he faced before the shootout .
In that final frame, the Aces built a 3-2 lead on goals by junior Zac Blaydes (Midway, Ky.), sophomore Jesse Stafford Lacey (Banna Ireland) and senior Ian McGrath (New Lenox, Ill.), with Keller making a key stop on an attempt by the Bears' Ian Jones.
However, Keller's Missouri State counterpart Liam Priestly stymied senior Chris Shuck (Shelbyville, Ky.) and sophomore Hunter DeWeese (Haubstadt, Ind.).
Needing a stop to keep Evansville alive, Keller was beaten by Missouri State's Ian Wu for the game winner.
UE finishes it's season with a record of 11-8 and 2, while the Bears advance to Sunday's MVC title game with a mark of 9-4-3.
