EVANSVILLE, Ind. - With four victories in their last five games, including Saturday's overtime thriller over Loyola, the University of Evansville men's soccer team is red-hot going into this week's Missouri Valley Conference tournament in Peoria. Aces Insider Joe Downs has the story.
Evansville (10-8-1, 3-4-1 MVC) looks to ride the momentum it has built over the last two weeks of the regular season, including an overtime victory over Wednesday's opponent Loyola. The Aces wrapped-up the regular season on Saturday with a 1-0 overtime win at Loyola. Sophomore defender Simon Waever scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute following a nearly 90 yard run.Â

After earning a 1-0 overtime victory over Loyola on Saturday, the Aces will battle the Ramblers again on Wednesday in the opening round of the MVC Tournament. The meeting is the 22nd all-time between the Aces and Ramblers, with Evansville owning an 18-2-1 advantage in the series, and the first in the MVC Tournament. UE and Loyola are not strangers to meeting in the postseason, though, as the two sides battled three times in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Tournament in 1988, 1989, and 1993.  This marks the fourth occasion (1996, 2003, 2013, 2017) in which Evansville has faced the same team in its regular season finale and MVC Tournament opener. Evansville is 1-2 when facing the same team back-to-back in the MVC Tournament and last won both matchups in 1996 with back-to-back wins over Missouri State.
