Niles, Mich. – A great all-around team effort saw the University of Evansville women's tennis team earn a 7-0 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday at Lakeland Tennis Academy. UE also traveled to Ball State fell by a final of 6-1.
"I was very pleased with our effort and intensity this morning. We did a great job of setting a tone early in doubles and carried that over to some very convincing singles wins. This is the kind of complete effort we hope to put forth on a consistent basis going forward," Aces head coach Jayson Wiseman said. "The Ball State match was much closer than the final score would indicate. We had numerous chances at almost every position where we could have established positive momentum and positioned ourselves for the win but every time we got there, they just seemed to slip away. We have some things we need to improve on and this was a good match, against a very skilled opponent that exposed some of those problem areas. We will be working clean those things up so that we continue to build positive momentum as our season progresses."
The Aces had a great start to the day against Valparaiso, earning a 7-0 victory. In doubles, the Acers clinched the point as Theodora Soldatou and Chieko Yamada defeated Dao Sysouvanh and Randi Wind, 6-0 in the second flight while Diana Tkachenko and Nicoli Pereira topped Meg Modesto and Erin Staal, 6-1, in the third flight.
A singles sweep began at the top flight with Yamada earning the win over Kathleen Hebble, 6-1, 6-3. Tkachenko continued her stellar play against Paige Heuer in #2 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Daria Pentsova kept it rolling in the third flight as she took down Modesto, 6-2, 6-2.
Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga defeated Sysouvanh, 6-2, 6-2 and Soldatou earned the victory over Jordan Kopfer in the 5
th flight, 6-4, 6-2. Andjela Brguljan rounded out the sweep as her scores in #6 singles against Wind finished out at 6-4, 7-6.
