Baseball game against WMU suspended in eighth

3/17/2017 9:17:00 PM

EVANSVILLE — A heavy fog rolled into Charles H. Braun Stadium on Friday evening, and the lack of visibility led to a suspension of play in the eighth with the Purple Aces trailing visiting Western Michigan 9-0.

Play will resume in the top of the eighth inning on Saturday at 2 p.m. The second game of the series will continue afterwards.

WMU (7-6) opened up the scoring with two runs in the third off of UE starter Patrick Schnieders.

The UE (6-9) relief staff impressed at times as both Jack Cavanaugh and David Ellis combined to allow just one hit over 1.2 frames, but the duo of Ryan Brady and Jimmy Ward proved less effective. Brady surrendered three runs in the sixth and Ward was on the hook for four scores an inning later.

The Broncos were led on the day by Tyler Frank and Tanner Allison, who finished with two-hits apiece. Every WMU hitter picked up at least on hit through the first seven innings, helping the team out-hit UE 11-5.
