NORMAN, Okla. – Northwestern State scored seven runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 7-3 victory over the University of Evansville softball team in Saturday's opening game at Marita Hynes Field.
 
The Purple Aces (4-8) registered six hits on the day, including a 2-RBI double by Hayli Scott.  Brittany Hay added a solo home run in the seventh.
 
Northwestern State got on the board in the top of the first inning as one run crossed the plate as Kellye Kincannon had an RBI single.  The Demons did even more damage in the second frame as six runs scored to give them a 7-0 advantage.  Julie Rawls had a 2-RBI single before Brittney Jones hit a 2-run shot to complete the scoring.
 
Evansville settled in at that point as the Aces got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.  Courtney Land and Susan Norris reached with no outs and moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Mick Fleming.  Ashlee Kawall loaded the bases after drawing a walk to bring up pinch hitter Hayli Scott.  She delivered another big hit as her double scored the first two runs of the game for the Purple Aces.
 
Brittany Hay gave UE another run with a solo shot in the seventh, but that was it was UE fell by the final of 7-3.
 
At 6 p.m. tonight, the Aces will be back in action.  They will take on the winner of the Western Kentucky/Oklahoma game, which begins at 1 p.m.
