EVANSVILLE – Following weeks of preparation and a pair of exhibitions, the University of Evansville women's soccer team will open the 2017 regular season with a pair of home matches on opening weekend at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
The Purple Aces open the regular season at 7 p.m. on Friday with a contest against Southeast Missouri State University before wrapping-up the weekend against UT Martin on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
UE split its exhibition contests, starting the preseason with a 1-0 victory over SIU Edwardsville before falling to Murray State on the road.
SEMO is coming off a 2016 season that saw the Redhawks amass a 9-6-4 record. UE and SEMO have met on 12 previous occasions with the Redhawks holding a 5-3-4 advantage in the series.
Sunday's contest with UT Martin marks the seventh time the Aces and Skyhawks have met with UT Martin leading the all-time series, 4-2-1. The Skyhawks finished 2016 with a 4-14 record.
For Friday's contest with SEMO, both teams will don gold laces as part of the Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer campaign, showing support for the fight against pediatric cancer. The Aces will continue to support the Go4theGoal foundation throughout the season, collecting donations at each home contest.
