EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Swimming and diving will compete at Wyttenbach Pool for the last time this season in a split series this weekend.
The women will host Illinois State on Friday night at 5 p.m., and the men will take on Ball State Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Aces look to come back after a loss at Saint Louis last Thursday.
Senior Danielle Freeman led the way for the women with two individual wins. She clocked in a 24.28 in the 50 freestyle, then proceeded to record a 58.55 100 butterfly.
Sophomore Kristy Kupfer took a second place finish in the 200 freestyle, her final time a 1:59.61. In the 200 IM, junior Kristen Myers also took 2
nd place in 2:16.41. She was paced by freshman Andrea Ramis who took 3
rd with a close 2:16.60.
Junior Sam Gowdy kept the consistency with a 2
nd place finish in the 100 backstroke, finishing with a 59.77. Sophomore Alaina Sylvester recorded a 1:09.34 in the 100 breaststroke for 3
rd place. Sophomore Ashton Adams took her own 3
rd place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a final 11:03.90.
The women's 200 freestyle relay came runner up this evening. Myers, junior Kaylee Gubricky, Gowdy, and sophomore Emma Hennessy teamed up to clock in a 1:28.61.
The men put up similar performances. Freshman Austin Smith stood out in his events. He took 2
nd in both the 1000 and 500 freestyle, clocking 10:02.24 and 4:54.83 respectively. Sophomore Brandt Hudson followed in the 500, recording a 4:55.03 for 3
rd place.
Hudson took his own 2
nd place finish in the 200 freestyle, touching in at 1:44.52. Senior Prescott Marcy took runner up in the 100 butterfly, outtouching 3
rd place at 53.67.
Freshman Credence Pattinson took a pair of 3
rd place finishes. He recorded a 22.21 in the 50 freestyle and a 52.03 in the 100 backstroke. Sophomore Paul Cozzens also took a pair of 3rds, his in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke at 1:59.06 and 1:01.64 respectively.
The men's 200 freestyle relay team of Smith, freshman Ryan Wood, Hudson, and junior Jared Sutphin clocked in a 1:28.61 for 2
nd place.
The diving squad found victory on the boards this evening. Senior Courtney Coverdale took the win on 1-Meter with 281.02 points, nearly 50 points ahead of the runner up. Freshman Natalie Gerard took 3
rd with 210.07.
The men swept the 1-Meter competition. Junior Miguel Marcano scored 260.32 points for the win, while Cory Barnes came 2
nd with 238.65.
The Aces will take the weekend off before returning to Wyttenbach Pool at the end of the month. The women will take on Illinois State on Friday, January 26
th, while the men host Ball State the next day.
