Track and Field prepared for first MVC Championships in program history

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After a successful regular season, the University of Evansville men's and women's track and field teams travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday, hosted by UNI.

In their final tuneup before the MVC Indoor Championships, the University of Evansville men's and women's track and field teams saw success at the EIU Friday Night Special in Charleston, Ill. hosted by Eastern Illinois. Four program records fell for the Aces at the EIU Friday Night Special including a 30-plus year old record being broke for the second-straight meet. In the men's 400 meter dash, senior Everett Plocek surpassed Willie Morris' record of 55.07 set in 1984 as Plocek finished third in the race with a time of 55.04.

The conference championships open on Friday with the first action beginning with women's pentathlon at 9:30 a.m. and at 10 a.m. with the men's heptathlon. Field events start with the women's weight throw trials and finals at 2 p.m., while action on the track opens at 3 p.m. with the prelims of the women's 60 meter hurdles. Saturday's events conclude with women's and men's distance medley relays at 7:25 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.

On Sunday, the men's heptathlon resumes at 9:30 a.m. while the women's triple jump trials and finals open field competition at 11 a.m. Track events begin at 1:25 p.m. and 1:35 p.m. with the men's and women's mile runs. The championships wrap-up on Sunday evening with the women's and men's 4x400 meter relays at 4:40 p.m. and 4:55 p.m., respectively.

Saturday and Sunday's action will be broadcast live on The Valley on ESPN3.
