MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Evansville women's golf team opened its spring with the first round at the Alabama State Spring Kickoff at Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery, Ala.
Evansville recorded a 332 as a team to begin the two-day tournament putting the Aces fourth among the five-team field. Leading the spring kickoff is Alabama State who shot a nine-over 297 as a team earning the Yellow Jackets a 29-stroke lead over the field.
The Aces were led by junior Madison Chaney who fired an opening-round 79 to place her in a tie for 10th among the 28-golfer field. Following Chaney was freshman Sophia Rohleder just two strokes behind with a nine-over 81, putting Rohleder alone in 12th.
Fellow freshman Minka Gill was the third-highest finishing Purple Ace in the opening round. Gill shot a first-round 84, putting the Kokomo, Ind. native in 14th. Senior Giulia Mallman followed Gill, carding an 88 in the opening round, good enough to place Mallman in a tie for 16th with one round remaining. Wrapping-up the Aces' contingent was sophomore Lexie Sollman, who recorded a first-round 94 to put Sollman in a tie for 20th.
UE finishes the Alabama State Spring Kickoff on Tuesday with its final round at Lagoon Park Golf Course.
