MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Evansville men's golf team recorded the best round of the day to earn a second-place finish at the Alabama State Spring Kickoff at Lagoon Park Golf Course in Montgomery, Ala.
After carding a team score of 297 on the first day of the tournament, the Purple Aces responded with a second-round best 291 to finish with a team total of 588, leaping Alcorn State and finishing in second. With a final round score of 293, host Alabama State captured the team title with a two-day total of 578 (285-293).

Final Results
Tyler Gray led the way for Evansville with a two-round score of 144 (73-71), tying him for fourth. Gray's second-round 71 was the third-best round on the final day. Following Gray was Matthew Ladd who mirrored his opening-round score of 73 on the second day to finish alone in seventh with a two-round total of 146.
Cameron Weyer, Noah Reese, and Spencer Wagner all completed the tournament with totals of 149 and finished in a tie for ninth, but did so in different ways. Weyer, who recorded a 74 in the first round, stayed consistent with a second-round 75. Reese shot a 77 on the opening day putting him in a tie for 25th, but rebounded with a final-round 72, moving the junior up 11 spots. The final Ace in the group, Wagner fired a 75 on the first day before earning a one stroke improvement with a 74 in the second round competing as an individual.
After an opening-round 85, Gabe Rohleder improved by four strokes in the final round with an 81, earning a 42nd place finish.
Competing as individuals, Robert Waggoner mimicked his first round score with a final-round 76 for a tournament-total of 152 as the sophomore finished in a tie for 19th. The final Evansville golfer competing as an individual was Jessie Brumley. After opening the tournament with an 82 on the first day, Brumley bounced back with an even-par 72 in the final round for a total of 154, putting the freshman in a tie for 24th at the end of the spring kickoff.
Evansville returns to action on March 6 and 7 when the Aces travel to the LPGA Country Club in Daytona Beach, Fla. for the Lonnie Barton Invitational.
