Game Notes

The Purple Aces (1-5) have had a rough go of it so far in 2018. After winning an opening day slugfest over Fordham in extra innings, UE has dropped five straight, including a rain-shortened sweep at the hands of Kennesaw State last weekend.

However, the Aces have caught fire at the plate, led by sophomore infielder Troy Beilsmith, who currently leads the team in batting average, hitting at a .381 clip. Beilsmith currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference in slugging percentage, with an .810 mark. He is also tied for the most doubles in the MVC, as well as being tied for third in home runs.

As for the Leathernecks (0-6), they have yet to taste victory so far in 2018, having been swept by both Middle Tennessee State and Murray State.

The series opens on Friday with Evansville junior right hander Austin Allinger facing off against junior righty Ian Koch. Saturday features the match-up of the Aces junior southpaw Austin Allinger and senior right hander Ryan Dunne. The series finale on Sunday sees a showdown of sophomore right handers, with UE's David Ellis squaring off against WIU's Jevin Drake.
