Times improve in Day 2 of MAC Champs

OXFORD, Ohio – Personal records fell this evening as the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championship continued in Day 2.

"Another good day," said head coach Rickey Perkins. "We are doing things we have never done before as a team. We are having some awesome performances. I feel that on Friday we will be able to build on the success we have had so far this meet."

Tonight's finals session was kicked off with the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of junior Matt Duke, freshmen Ryan Wood and Eli James, and junior Jared Sutphin took 6th place with a final time of 1:24.14.

In this morning's preliminary round of the 500 freestyle, junior David Stoddard recorded a career best time with a 4:48.17 to win the heat.

Sophomore Paul Cozzens earned a lifetime best of his own, improving his 200 IM time by over a second to clock a 1:52.80. Senior Brendan Ninneman posted a 1:57.54 personal best, while freshman Pierce Lively added another improved time to the stack, his a 1:59.88.

In the 50 freestyle, freshman Eli James posted a personal best 21.49. Additionally, fellow freshman Ryan Wood clocked a 21.40. Junior Jared Sutphin swam a 21.43.

On the diving side, junior Miguel Marcano and senior Cory Barnes participated in the consolation final. Marcano placed 5th with 233.80 points, while Barnes followed in 6th with 218.40. This is the first time in program history the Aces have scored two divers at a men's conference championship.

Tomorrow's preliminary session will begin at 10:30 Eastern Time tomorrow morning. Events will include the 400 IM, 200 freestyle, and 100s of the strokes.
