SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Evansville men's golf team sits in a tie for fourth after the first round of the Bobby Nichols Invitational at Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
Evansville carded a five-over 293 as a team on the opening day of the invitational placing the Purple Aces in a tie for fourth. UE sits just six strokes off the pace set by tournament-leader Eastern Kentucky who recorded a 287 to open the invitational.
Leading the Aces in the opening round was Tyler Gray who tallied a one-under 71 in the first round, placing the senior in a tie for seventh, just three strokes out of a tie for first. In a tie for 18th is Spencer Wagner with a one-over 73 with Noah Reese (74) and Matthew Ladd (75) sitting in a tie for 26th and a tie for 37th, respectively.Â
A pair of Evansville golfers are tied for 50th in the 84-golfer field as Cameron Weyer and Jessie Brumley each carded opening-round 77s. Competing individually, Brumley sits sixth among individual golfers in the field.
The second of three rounds takes place on Monday morning at Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
