Evansville Golf heads to Florida for Lonnie Barton Invitational

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After opening their spring seasons with successful finishes at the Alabama State Spring Kickoff, the University of Evansville men's and women's golf teams travel to the LPGA Country Club in Daytona Beach, Fla. for the Lonnie Barton Invitational hosted by LIU - Brooklyn.

At the Alabama State Spring Kickoff, the Aces' women's team earned a third-place finish in the five-team field with a two-round total of 651 (332-319). Leading the Aces was junior Madison Chaney, who finished in a tie for fifth with two-day total of 158 (79-79). Following Chaney, a trio of Aces finished in a row as Sophia Rohleder, Minka Gill, and Giulia Mallman came in 12th, 13th, and 14th, respectively. Rohleder mirrored her opening-round 81 with an 81 on the second day to earn her a 12th-place finish. Following a first-round 84, Gill carded an 80 to jump up a spot to 13th. Mallman tied for the second-largest improvement following the first round as the senior bested her opening-round score by nine strokes with a 79 in the final round to grab a 14th-place finish. The largest improvement from first round to final round in the tournament was owned by the Aces' Lexie Sollman, who finished 20th. The sophomore shot an 84 on the second day, improving her score by 10 strokes after recording a 94 on the opening day.

Evansville's men also earned a podium finish, grabbing a second-place finish with after jumping up a spot on the final day of the tournament. The Aces recorded a 297 in the first round to put UE in third after the first day, but fired a second-round best 291 to leap into second with a team score of 588. Tyler Gray was the low individual for the Aces as Gray finished in a tie for fourth with a 144 (73-71). Gray's second-round 71 was the third-best round on the final day of the tournament. Gray was followed by Matthew Ladd who recorded a pair of 73s to finish in seventh with a two-round total of 146. Much like the Aces' women, a trio of Purple Aces finished in a tie as Cameron Weyer, Noah Reese, and Spencer Wagner all completed the tournament with totals of 149 and finished in a tie for ninth. After an opening-round 85, Gabe Rohleder improved by four strokes in the final round with an 81, earning a 42nd place finish. Competing as individuals, Robert Waggoner mirrored his first round score with a final-round 76 for a tournament-total of 152 as the sophomore finished in a tie for 19th. The final Evansville golfer competing as an individual was Jessie Brumley. After opening the tournament with an 82 on the first day, Brumley bounced back with an even-par 72 in the final round for a total of 154, putting the freshman in a tie for 24th at the end of the spring kickoff.

The LPGA Country Club in Daytona Beach, Fla., the site of this week's Lonnie Barton Invitational, has hosted numerous LPGA tournaments and the 2001 and 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships.
